You may recall Gabrielle joining me a few weeks back for my first real attempt at “beauty” portraiture.
During that same session, at my request, she also arrived prepared for some more fashion styled work. The idea at the time being that the beauty work was an experiment, and if it didn’t work out the way I wanted, at least I’d have this style to fall back on. Which ended up being a completely unnecessary line of thinking, but I love the shots we got so win win.
One of my favourite things as a photographer will always be to capture honest images that reflect a persons own style and personality - I like to think I accomplished that with her. Poise and confidence. And she was wicked amazing to work with, an absolute natural in front of the camera… only surprising in that she had never done anything like this before. Honestly; I'm already looking forward to working with her again.
This session continued my pursuit of minimalism and simplicity. Solid background, one light… everything about this style is designed to keep the focus on the person. I want my work to be 100% about the people I'm photographing.
It’s a style I intend to keep pushing and growing in. I’ve been told recently that it’s become a style I’m both recognizable for, and that other photographers are even drawing inspiration from. I like that. I feel like I’ve found my little niche and now I hope to see how far I can take it.
